Don't Touch a Man's Tractor

"All I know is that when I see Rod again, I'm gonna have Dave help me lock him in the grain bin..." - C

When it came to making "Don't Touch a Man's Tractor", the first thing to say is that the entire project was put together in only a duration of 2 weeks.  The discussion to do a 2019 Halloween video for the series had been discussed, but there was not enough time to put together a full length episode.  After talking it over with several people involved with the series, it was decided to do a simple short instead, but try to keep it entertaining at the same time.  As always the first thing to do with these videos is write a script, which came together in just one evening.

The set used for the video was rather small and only measured about 2' x 4'.  A simple grass mat was put down as a base, followed by buildings and driveways.  Only the barn and gray machine shed were used due to lack of space.  Because the barn bridge was left off the set, the combine (Harvester's model) was put in place to somewhat block the view of where the barn bridge would be.  The driveways on the set were made from just normal sand, which was definitely a step up from the use of brown paper bags.  The only real scenic issue that was overlooked was that in the middle of set there should be a cement sidewalk which would lead to the farmhouse if it was on set as well.

The set in its entiretly during filming.

Because no footage was being shot inside the buildings, interior detail was not much of a concern when building the set.  Nothing was added to the barn and other than equipment, nothing was really added to the machine shed other than a couple benches and barrels.  Models of Scoop, Cyrus, and (unnamed tractor) were also added to the background detail.

C had 2 different models used for her character.  Model #1 as we'll call it was the primary model which is used for C in the series.  Model #2 was painted black and only appeared in shots where C was seen moving.  C's black paint on her actual model was done using a photo editor which would take the red paint and turn it to black.  This was done because details such as the grill and IH logos would be lost if the model was repainted, and making decals that small would take too long as well.  Given enough time, this edit could have been done in video as well, but time was something that was in short supply.  This is where Model #2 came into play.  Using another Farmall C from a previous project, the model was repainted entirely black.  Because the model was never used for closeup shots, the missing decals were not a concern.  The painted model did however lack details such as the headlights and battery mounted on the side.  It should also be noted that both models had different mufflers due to C's correct one not being put back on after production of Past to Present.

The cat ears used on both models were cut out of 1mm styrene and painted.  They were applied with Blustik (Blu Tack) to make the modification easy to remove after production had ended.  There are plans in the future to use these ears again, so they have been put in storage till then.
